Most go-to-market motions were never designed. They accreted: a hire here, a tool there, a channel someone copied — and the accretion, not the market, is the ceiling.

What the work actually is.
The whole motion designed as one system before any tool is bought: ICP, channels, sequencing, and the human gates between them.
Ask a company for its go-to-market architecture and what arrives is a tool list and an org chart. The motion itself was never drawn, because it was never decided: who is pursued, through which channels, in what order, with whose judgment standing in front of the market. It accreted: a sequencer adopted in one quarter’s panic, a channel copied from a competitor’s visible success, an ICP that quietly means “whoever replied.” Each decision was defensible on its day. The sum was never chosen by anyone.
Architecture reverses the order of purchase. The system is designed first, end to end: an ICP written tightly enough to exclude; channels selected for where those buyers actually decide, not where the tooling is cheapest; sequencing specified as what a prospect experiences, step by step; and human gates placed wherever the company’s judgment must stand between the machine and the market. Every stage gets an owner, an instrument, and a number. Only then does the stack get bought — because only then can any tool be evaluated against the job it exists to do.
This is the line that makes the practice’s founding claim testable: specify the motion as a system, and revenue’s dependence on any one person becomes a design variable instead of a fact of life.
